Statement Of Duties
Performs
responsible and varied work in issuing and receiving library books and
materials, and assisting patrons in using library services and facilities.
Regularly scheduled weekend and evening work is expected.

The
Circulation Librarian is supervised by the Library Director.

The
Circulation Librarian is responsible for overseeing interns and volunteers
assigned to him/her.
Physical Requirements
Must be able
to communicate with patrons, must be able to respond to visual prompts on the
computer terminal and must be able to shelve and/or retrieve books from top and
bottom shelves. Must be able to lift thirty pounds. Must provide own
transportation in the conduct of duties.
The

Experience And Training
This
full-time position requires a BA/BS and library experience. Post-graduate MLS
education and foreign language abilities preferred.

Manage Circulation Desk

Check materials in and out
o
Register new patrons
o
Greet patrons as they come into the Library

Track patron visits and reference
transactions on Daily Stats sheet
o
Collect fines and fees

Manage overdue materials
&
Monitor computer usage
&
Provide basic computer and
catalog assistance
&
Answer reference questions
&
Shelf read
&
Provide reader advisory to
patrons
&
Shelve returned books
&
Prepare monthly statistics
& Manages effective, cost efficient and timely interlibrary-loan services

Assemble patron requests
and deliver them to the Librarian

Schedule meeting room

Perform opening and closing
procedures

Resolve office equipment
malfunctions

Knowledge,
Skills and Ability
&
Knowledge of the use of computers in
libraries
&
Knowledge of fiction genres and major
representative authors
&
Intermediate computer skills, including, but
not limited to, MS Office applications, basic Internet searching strategies and
library automation systems
&
Ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with superiors, other staff members, volunteers, and the
general public

Ability in oral and written communication
and to follow written and oral instructions

Ability to acquire a working knowledge of
regulations and procedures pertaining to library responsibilities

Ability to type or keyboard accurately

Ability to maintain accurate files and

In depth knowledge of library classification
of materials, especially using the Dewey Decimal System.
